Introduction

Single Pair Ethernet is a technology that the Ethernet data transmission is through only a single pair of wires. In addition to data transmission by Ethernet,  the SPE can also supply power to terminal equipments through PoDL while data transmission. It is no doubt that the SPE sets up new possibilities and applications for IIoT.

Origin

Initially, the SPE originated from automotive industry. In automotive industry, the application of SPE not only satisfies ultra-high rate of data transmission that achieves the high reliability in narrow spaces , but also reduces the weight of cable in the vehicle, which is beneficial for reducing the costs and improving the competitiveness of vehicle manufacturers.

Origin

Tendency

With the rapid development and widespread applications of IoT and Industry 4.0, the application of SPE becomes increasingly extensive, such as industrial automotion, security, robots, locomotives and vehicle, etc. In the above various types of Internet of Things application scenarios, a large number of devices are accessed, such as high-definition digital cameras, sensors, high-resolution displays, and so on. Therefore, the SPE has become one of the key technologies for the success of the Internet of Things, because it has three advantages, reducing weight, reducing cost and simplifying installation process.

Activity

In 2019, Zhaolong joined in the SPE Industry Partner Network and become a senior member. Members from different industries, for example, the sponsor Harting, TE, HIROSE, gather in the alliance (SPE Industry Partner Netwrk) to jointly promote the development of SPE. Zhaolong participates in various technical exchanges and marketing activities within the alliance. Zhaolong is willing to walk side by side with world-class enterprises, continues to innovate around Ethernet technology, and serves the bright future of the Internet of Everything.

SPE Connectors

Currently, the International Standardization Committee (IEC) has released two standards for two connectors, namely IEC 63171-1 and IEC 63171-6.

The connector applicable to the IEC 63171-1 is mainly used in the building automation environment, and the connector applicable to the IEC 63171-6 is mainly used in the industrial environment, which meets the protection grade of IP20 or IP67.

In addition, the first M12 and M8 connectors meeting the IP65 / 67 will be launched this year.

At the same time, two standards, IEC 63171-2 and IEC 63171-5, will be released soon.

SPE Cables

SPE cables are defined in IEC 61156 according to the following three types of standards: installation type, maximum length of transmission, and data rate. IEC 61156-11 (for fixed application) and IEC 61156-12 (for flexible application) define that the transmission rate is up to 1 Gbit/s over 40m over SPE cables, with the highest frequency up to 600MHz. The standards for longer length of transmission in IEC 61156-13 (for fixed application) and IEC 61156-14 (for flexible application) are currently being developed.

In addition, the maximum power of SPE-PoDL cables is 50W during transmission, and the cables can be divided as 22AWG and 26AWG. The 22AWG cables are characterized by good attenuation and high-power transmission through PoDL. On the contrary, the 26AWG cables have the advantages of small diameter and light weight.

In addition to standardized cable types, IEC is currently developing special versions for various physical and mechanical properties (for example, torsion, drag chain or robot application, etc.), so that the end users will have more suitable choices.

Zhaolong can design and provide SPE cables with different transmission rates including basic types of 26AWG, 22AWG and 18AWG cables, such as IEEE802.3bw, IEEE802.3bp, IEEE802.3cg.

Zhaolong SPE cables can meet the transmission rates specified in above standards, and meanwhile Zhaolong is developing SPE cables that can meet various physical and mechanical properties, to cope with the requirements for various complex industrial applications, such as anti-electromagnetic interference, oil resistance, high and low temperature resistance. , wear resistance, bending resistance, drag chain resistance, twist resistance, etc.
